This one-week, green woodworking skills based intensive will provide a safe supportive and creative space for chairmakers to explore the realities of bringing a new greenwood chair concept to life. Students will spend time prior to the class preparing sketches, models, and or prototypes and will be given feedback by George. The one week class will then be spent working with traditional windsor chair tools, techniques, and parameters to figure out how to build the designs that students developed. Our goal is for students to leave the class feeling well prepared to take their design to completion.
Who should apply: All applicants should have some experience with chairmaking, independent design and comfortability trying and learning new woodworking techniques. Applicants should identify as historically excluded or underrepresented in the field of woodworking.
*Please Note* Required by accepted students:
2 Zoom meetings (September and October) to discuss designs prior to arrival of November 7 start day.
A partnership with the Holden House has been secured for this opportunity. Students will pay for a room at a special discounted rate November 7-14
Type of Class: This is a Full Affinity Class, which means all students are selected through The Chairmaker’s Toolbox. To learn more read the CMT Class FAQ page.
